Ludacris Responds To Confederate Flag Flap

Ludacris has responded to the outcry that resulted after the Atlanta, Georgia rapper donned a Confederate Flag during his performance Nov. 12 at the 3rd annual Vibe Awards.
For the show’s finale, Ludacris performed the new song “Georgia” with Bobby Valentino and Field Mobb.
Luda said he wore the flag to make a statement and spark discussion.
“This flag represents the oppression that we as African Americans have endured for years; this is a symbol of segregation and the racism that reigned not only throughout the South but throughout the entire United States,” said Ludacris in a statement. “I wore it to represent where we came from, to remind people that Ray Charles’ original ‘Georgia’ was written because of that racism.”
Charles’ version of Hoagy Carmichael’s “Georgia On My Mind” was named the Georgia state song in 1979.
Luda pointed out that he later discarded the flag, stomped on it, and brought a different flag bearing the traditional African colors?red, black, and green.
“It is a representation and my interpretation of where we were and where we need to go. Racism is just as prevalent now and if we are not constantly mindful of our history and take charge of it, history is destined to repeat itself because of ignorance.
“In order to move forward, we must never forget where we were,” Luda continued. “I hope people continue to question and challenge authority, media and themselves because questioning and challenging can only lead to enlightenment.”
I was so proud of Ludacris. I knew that he was making a statement. Keep up the awareness Luda.
It is best to let the past be the past, if u keep bringin it up, there will ALWAYS be racism…if no one knows how it used to be then no one can bring it back
I’m a HUGE Ludacris fan amongst others, I appreciate that more and more hip-hop artist are showing they are not one dimensional! the more we know (even if it is “history”) the more we grow! keep it up! You make me proud to be a fan!
Say
Word up to Luda. Luda was hot. I admire him for breaking the ice. Although the confederate is known for Afican-American oppresion I beleive it was a matter of reverse psychology and truly a well made statement.

I’m mixed with black and white and ppl say to me “you half white so why do you get offended by the confederate flag” i say b/c it doesn’t matter i’m still classified as black so i’m going to get ffended no matter what.
Luda damn u FINE ….n yo music raw. Kepp doin yo thang. N make dem disses bout T.I
The flag represents the south. Change the meaning of the flag and it cant hold you back. Our whole demeanor is different wearin it shows u proud of where ur from. Its not what it stood for its what it stands for Na mean? What about lil jon’s old video “Bia Bia”
I think that Luda wearin the flag was one hell of a statement. It’s good to see someone of that status not forgetting where he came from. I think that whatever flag you wave shouldn’t matter anyways, a flag is a piece of cloth. What it represents for someone is all that matters. Staying REAL is all that matters
” furthermore, it bring back in your thoughts regarding the evening I ran into my better half.
