So So Def/Virgin Records’ group Dem Franchize Boyz recently reached the one million mark in ring tune sales, just as their debut album, On Top Of Our Game entered near the top of Billboard’s Top 200 chart.
The Atlanta-based group racked up 1,056,924 in sales of ring tune versions of their #1 hit “I Think They Like Me,” as well as their top ten follow-up “Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It.”
“Jermaine Dupri and his staff have hit a home run with Dem Franchize Boyz,” said Virgin Records chairman Jason Flom. “This phenomenon began back in July with the launch of the first single as a ring tune on the same day it went to radio.”
The group’s debut effort moved almost 106,000 copies since hitting stores Feb. 7.
The album was the highest rap debut this week, entering Billboard’s Top 200 Chart at #5, coming in behind Andrea Bocelli’s Amore, Barry Manilow’s The Greatest Hits Of The Fifties, Mary J. Blige’s The Breakthrough and Jack Johnson’s Curious George soundtrack.
In related news, Dem Franchize Boyz will make a late night appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday morning (Feb. 17) at 12:05 am on ABC.
