Yo Gotti’s CD Release/Birthday Party Interrupted By Shooting

May 20th, 2006 | By Administrator

A birthday and CD release party for North Memphis rapper Yo Gotti was interrupted on Friday (May 19) morning by a shooting at a Beale Street nightclub.

Police are investigating if an alleged feud between Yo Gotti rivals may have sparked the shooting just after 3:00 am, inside of the Plush Club.

Witnesses said one shot was fired, but the single bullet managed to strike three different people.

“A shot was fired and one individual was shot in the abdomen,” Said Memphis Police Sgt. Vince Higgins, “He’s now in stable condition at The Med. The investigation is ongoing, but this one bullet managed to injure three people.”

Police have yet to identify a suspect in the shooting, which took place in front up to 800 people.

“Let’s face it there were hundreds of witnesses,” Higgins said. “Someone saw what happened someone saw who fired the round we’d like for them to come forward.”

According to witnesses, several men allegedly left the club after a dispute and returned armed and over ran security, which had been beefed up due to anticipated violence.

While details are sketchy, reports said a rival group also appeared in the club wearing shirts that featured degrading remarks about Yo Gotti.

Initial reports said the root of the rappers’ feud may be over a song named “Memphis Walk.”

Memphis rapper Miscellaneous released a version of the song two years ago, while Yo Gotti recently recorded a song by the same title.

Miscellaneous’ manager denied the charges and said the two rappers spoke before the event at Club Plush and resolved their differences.

Yo Gotti’s attorney denied his client was involved in the shooting as well.

“Yo Gotti’s very dismayed at what happened the other night,” Gotti’s attorney Arthur Horne told reporters. “He doesn’t condone that type of behavior and feels as though it was irresponsible, but does not have any control over what individuals do in that kind of setting.”

Yo Gotti was featured on the soundtrack to the Oscar Award winning film Hustle & Flow and has been a longtime fixture in the Memphis rap scene.

Yo Gotti’s Back 2 Da Basics hits stores on Tuesday (May 23) and features production by Mannie Fresh, DJ Toomp, Street Tunes, Carlos Broady and features appearances by Baby, Lil’ Wayne, Bun B. and others.

Yung Joc Does Double Duty as Artist and Label Head

May 19th, 2006 | By Administrator

With the success of his first single “It’s Goin’ Down,” Atlanta rapper Yung Joc is riding high as an artist.

But the Block Entertainment/Bad Boy lyricist is not resting as he expands his resume with his new role as president of Mastermind Music, a new label he created with his friend Chino Dollar.

“We did a deal with Block Entertainment and they have the major distribution through Bad Boy South and Warner Music Group,” Joc told AllHipHop.com. “That means that when the checks get cut I get an advance check for being an artist, and I also got a big check for being the president of Mastermind and doing that deal with Block.”

Being an artist and a businessman at a young age has allowed Joc the opportunity to further his professional growth in the music industry.

“Being 23 don’t mean I’m just wet behind the ears and fresh off of a college campus,” he said. “It means I’m ready to spread my wings and fly. There’s a whole world out here of nothing but space and opportunity and I’m taking advantage of every opportunity to get it…beware.”

Yung Joc’s debut album New Joc City hits stores on June 6.

Weapons Charges Against Young Jeezy Dropped

May 17th, 2006 | By Administrator

Two counts of weapons charges against Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy were dropped after the Florida State Attorney’s Office determined there was insufficient evidence to prosecute him in connection with a Miami shooting.

The Def Jam artist (born Jay Jenkins) had been charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.

According to police reports, Jenkins and an entourage of men allegedly associated with BMF were involved in a fight with a group of men around 5:30 a.m. on March 11.

When a person filming the altercation refused to turn over the video camera, one of the men in the crowd reportedly pulled a gun and began firing.

After fleeing the scene in separate trucks, officers stopped both vehicles and found a semiautomatic firearm under Jeezy’s seat and another gun near the armrest when they searched his SUV.

During Jeezy’s preliminary hearing, prosecutor Audrey Frank conceded that the State Attorney’s Office did not have enough evidence to proceed with the case and that the charges would be dropped.

Frank also indicated that the State would not be allowed to pursue the case against Jeezy’s assistant, Tramiel De Juan Golden, who had been charged with strong-armed robbery.

Judge Ends T.I.’s Probation, Rapper Cleared To Tour

May 16th, 2006 | By Administrator

Atlanta rapper T.I. appeared in court yesterday (May 15) to answer a charge of violating his probation sentence stemming from a 2003 arrest in Tampa, Fla.

Judge Daniel Perry ended the probation and T.I. is now free to perform a series of concerts that had been canceled after a month of turmoil rocked the rapper’s tour.

“All prior legal matters have been resolved as it relates to T.I.’s probation,” T.I.’s attorney Jonathan Leonard told AllHipHop.com. “He is no longer on probation for any previous legal incidents.”

The outing was halted after a May 3 shooting fatally wounded T.I.’s assistant and longtime friend Philant Johnson, 26, of Union City, Ga.

According to police, the shooting was the result of an altercation that took place earlier in the evening at an after-hours nightclub.

Police say two dark SUV’s chased T.I.’s van and opened fire when the vehicle came to a halt after blowing a tire. Johnson was killed and three others were injured. T.I. was also in the van but was not injured.

T.I. appeared in court May 10 to answer a separate charge for allegedly threatening several men outside an Atlanta strip club in another case, when he was briefly jailed for violating his probation.

Judge Perry sentenced the rapper to perform 225 hours of community service in March 2005, after he pleaded guilty to battery on an officer and violating the terms of his previous probation.

A few months later, after he violated probation by driving with a suspended license, T.I. was given an additional 150 hours of community service.

The Florida warrant accused T.I. of serving only 10 hours of his community service. The rapper canceled a planned tour of Japan to answer the charges yesterday.

The rapper’s official Web site www.trapmuzik.com lists his next scheduled performance at The House of Blues in Anaheim, Calif., followed by dates in San Diego, Los Angeles, New York, Washington D.C. and Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

T.I.’s fourth album, King, was recently certified platinum by the RIAA.

T.I. Cancels Tour Of Japan

May 13th, 2006 | By Administrator

In light of his recent arrest, rapper Clifford “T.I.” Harris has cancelled his tour in Japan.

T.I. was scheduled to leave for Japan this Sunday, to promote his new album King, according to his spokesperson, Sidney Margetson.

“I think everybody decided it’s just a good time for him to take this week and regroup,” T.I.’s entertainment lawyer, Jonathan Leonard, told the Associated Press.

After the death of T.I.’s close friend and personal assistant, Philant Johnson during a gun battle in Cincinnati, the rapper’s U.S. tour came to an abrupt halt.

T.I. was arrested Wednesday (May 10) in Atlanta for neglecting to fulfill the terms of his probation.

The rapper was sentenced to 18 months probation and 75 hours of community service after pleading guilty to battery on a law enforcement officer, trespassing and disorderly conduct surrounding an incident in Tampa in 2003.

Another 150 hours of community service were later added after T.I. violated his probation by driving with a suspended license.

Leonard said they were unaware of the unfulfilled probation obligations in Florida.

T.I. will appear before a Tampa courtroom to address the charges on Monday (May 15).

T.I. Arrested, Released For Probation Violation

May 12th, 2006 | By Administrator

Atlanta rapper T.I. was arrested and detained in a Georgia jail on Wednesday (May 10) for allegedly failing to fulfill the terms and conditions of his probation.

T.I. (real name Clifford Harris) was placed under arrest after Florida probation officials revealed that the self-proclaimed King of the South failed to complete the required number of community service hours in accordance with his probation.

T.I. was involved in an altercation with security officers at a Florida mall in Sept. 2003.

The rapper and a group of friends were told to leave by security after allegedly causing a disturbance. In the melee, the rapper struck an officer.

Court records show that Circuit Judge Daniel Perry sentenced T.I. to perform 225 hours of community service in March 2005 after he plead guilty to battery on an officer and violating the terms of his probation.

Several months later, T.I. was arrested in Georgia for driving on a suspended license.

The charge was considered a violation of his probation and T.I. was sentenced to an additional 150 hours of community service.

He was also ordered to perform at least 5 hours of service per month.

T.I. appeared in a Georgia courtroom Wednesday (May 10) for an unrelated case, in which the rapper was accused of threatening several men outside an Atlanta strip club.

He was informed the warrant and was promptly arrested.

The Florida warrant accuses T.I. of only completing 10 hours of community service since being sentenced in 2005.

Although T.I.’s lawyer, Dwight Thomas, contended that the rapper had fulfilled more than 75 hours of service in Atlanta, T.I. was arrested and eventually released on a $25,000 bail.

T.I. is scheduled to surrender himself to Florida authorities by Monday (May 15).
